Diana McKenzie, RN
Independent Healthcare Advocate
The world of healthcare is complicated and constantly changing! It seems like every day brings on a new challenge for those of us trying to navigate our medical journey. Whether it’s a new diagnosis, chronic illness, or life changing event such as having a baby.
How do you know what direction to go in? How do you know what questions to ask or which way to turn for the right information? Who is going to listen to you and actually “hear“ your concerns? Who has the time?
In my 25 years of patient-care-related experience, I have been at the forefront of healthcare advocacy as a Registered Nurse, Clinical Nursing Instructor, and Legal Nurse Consultant.
I know how important it is for patients to understand all aspects of their healthcare, to be “heard” and treated with dignity and compassion, and to know that there is someone on their side to help guide them through the process.
With McKenzie Healthcare Advocacy on your side, I can assure you that you will not be alone when dealing with your specific healthcare needs.
I use a holistic approach to emphasize the following:
By spending time with you and getting to know you, as well as your medical condition, I can more effectively assess both your immediate and long-term needs. I will formulate a customized plan to meet these needs while keeping your values and goals first and foremost.
I can accompany you to your doctor appointments, mediate on your behalf, take notes so that you can focus on what’s being said, or talk directly to your doctor so that you can better understand the more difficult information regarding your situation. These are just a few ways that I can help you achieve your healthcare goals.
My goal is to compliment your healthcare team and work with the physicians and treatment facilities of your choice to optimize your healthcare. Effective communication and teamwork are key to problem-solving!
Together we will navigate this complicated world of healthcare with the focus on getting you the right treatment, avoiding unnecessary duplicate tests and saving you time and money. You will have peace of mind and satisfaction in knowing that you are in charge of your healthcare!

Frequently Asked Questions:
What is an independent healthcare consultant and advocate?
Hospitals and insurance companies hire patient advocates, representatives, or liaisons to assist patients with their health care. Their allegiance is to their employer, and their goal is to avoid potential problems for the hospital such as lawsuits or saving money for the insurance company by recommending less expensive treatment or medications in order to save the "insurance company" money.
As your independent healthcare consultant, I am employed by you and my allegiance is to you! I am not paid by hospitals or insurance companies. My main concern is what is best for you or your loved one. I advocate for you and focus 100% of my attention on improving your quality of life. My commitment is to promote the health, safety, and rights for you or your loved one.
Why do I need a healthcare advocate?
Chronic illness, new diagnosis, surgery, or any of the many other healthcare situations that may be life altering can lead to a great deal of stress, confusion, fear, and doubt. With today's healthcare model focusing on so many different tests and procedures, how do you know which one is right for you? How do you know which Doctor is best suited to treat your specific needs? How do you find out which facility provides the best care? With Doctors seeing more and more patients, this leaves them very little time to actually "spend time" with the patient. There are so many questions that need to be answered regarding your diagnosis, treatment options, tests, procedures, and possible outcomes.
So how do you make the right decision that is best for you or your loved one?
This is where I come in as your advocate. I will help you to better understand your healthcare situation and assist with the medical decision-making process through education, research, mediation, and collaboration with you and your healthcare providers. Together we can facilitate and optimize your healthcare needs. You will have peace of mind in knowing that you have an experienced, trustworthy, knowledgeable, and dedicated advocate on your side during this time of uncertainty and throughout your healthcare journey.
"Diana has provided warm and compassionate guidance in aiding with the complex medical navigation of my 90 year old mother in law's healthcare. She is an excellent listener combined with being and astute researcher, problem solver, and communicator. I have strong confidence in her ability and much gratitude for her service and care." S.M.
"In 2017 my aging mother was diagnosed with a medical condition that required surgery. Not living in the same state as my mom, I felt very helpless and was extremely concerned because I was not able to readily communicate with her surgeon. I felt I needed an advocate that would not only help me better understand what was happening to my mom medically but also someone who would ease my concerns and fears. As a result, I chose to consult with Ms. McKenzie.
From the initial phone conversation, my experience with Ms. McKenzie was fantastic! Her knowledge and expertise continually coincided with exactly what my mom’s surgeon would later relay to me. In addition, Ms. McKenzie was dedicated, caring and compassionate throughout the entire experience. She was readily available when I needed to talk with her and she was a great listener.
If you are looking for a patient advocate for yourself or a family member, I highly recommend McKenzie Healthcare Advocacy, LLC." D.M.
